Message from the Director of Alumni & Donor Relations

I am pleased to have this opportunity to introduce myself as ESF’s new Director of Alumni and Donor Relations. As an alum, this role is especially meaningful. It is a privilege to help steward the lifelong relationships that connect our alumni to ESF and to one another.

My sincere thanks go to our previous director, Debbie Caviness, for all she has done for the ESF Alumni Association. In recognition of her incredible service, the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors has granted her “Honorary Alumni Status.” Debbie’s deep commitment to ESF made her a Stumpy a long time ago, and we are thrilled that it is finally official.

I would also like to thank our alumni community for their incredible support of The Campaign for SUNY ESF. Over 5,400 alumni made contributions to the campaign, helping to surpass our $40-million goal. Our alumni have a remarkable impact on giving at ESF, making up over 60% of our donors. This generosity helps to ensure that ESF can continue to empower the next generation of environmental leaders, remain at the forefront of research, and provide an affordable education through scholarships.

We have many exciting plans on the horizon and a clear goal to increase opportunities for our alumni to connect with all things ESF: our research, our faculty, our students, and each other.

This includes the reimagining of Homecoming as ESF Fall Fest: Family and Homecoming Weekend. From our welcome awards dinner, where we will honor our Graduates of Distinction and Athletics Hall of Fame inductees, to faculty presentations and tie-dye during Saturday’s Quad Party, there will be something for everyone. 

We are also thrilled to partner with the Office of Admissions and Career Services as we relaunch our Alumni Ambassadors Program. Our ambassadors will have opportunities to connect with our students and prospective students, share the ESF story, and highlight the value of an ESF degree. When you remain engaged as alumni, you strengthen the entire ESF community. You open doors, create networks, and reinforce the idea that an ESF education is not a four-year experience, but a lifelong one.

I am incredibly excited to continue this work together and hope this year brings you a little closer to ESF.
