I had the privilege as a grad student to have Ed Ketchledge as my major professor. Although at times he wasn’t happy about the time I spent playing banjo with the jug band. My time at Cranberry Lake, wandering off trail in the wilderness, was priceless. My master’s research documented the past land use and fire history of the Cranberry Lake watershed. In addition, I found a grove of virgin hemlock off Black Duck Hole.
My recent interest in urban forestry prompted me to create two scholarships at ESF in Urban Forestry. I’ve also been attending the NYS Urban Forestry Council ReLeaf Conference, and have made many new botanical and forestry connections. The Cranberry Lake Jug Band – always enjoyed the square dances in Nifkin Lounge and our gigs at Hungry Charley’s.
